Runes Swap: How to Buy Runes with Bitcoin (BTC) on Liquidium
Feb 13, 2025
Swapping Runes tokens has never been easier, thanks to Liquidium’s new Runes Swap feature powered by SatsTerminal. You can now simply connect your wallet to the Liquidium app and swap bitcoin for any Runes token you’d like.
While Liquidium is, first and foremost, a Bitcoin lending platform, our mission is to make Bitcoin DeFi as easy and accessible as possible. So to facilitate easier access to the Bitcoin L1 asset-backed lending markets, we’ve released a Runes swapping feature fueled by the SatStream⇋ algorithm that allows you to seamlessly convert your BTC into Runes, which you can then deposit as lending collateral.
Read on to learn more about how to swap Runes tokens on Liquidium.
What Are Runes?
Runes are fungible tokens running on the Bitcoin blockchain powered by the Runes Protocol.
The Runes Protocol was created by Bitcoin developer Casey Rodamor to make asset issuance and trading easier and more efficient to foster a thriving, on-chain token economy on Bitcoin.
Today, the Runes token ecosystem boasts a variety of meme coins, like DOG•GO•TO•THE•MOON and PUPS•WORLD•PEACE (and many more), as well as utility and governance tokens like our very own LIQUIDIUM•TOKEN.
In addition to buying, holding, trading, and swapping them, you can also use Runes as lending collateral on Liquidium to borrow bitcoin or earn a yield on bitcoin as a lender.
What is Runes Swapping?
Runes swapping refers to exchanging BTC for Runes tokens (and vice versa) using a decentralized trading app like Liquidium Swaps.
Since Runes are Bitcoin-native, on-chain assets, swapping happens directly on the Bitcoin blockchain by leveraging Partially Signed Bitcoin Transactions (PSBTs) and Bitcoin’s UTXO model, making it highly secure and transparent.
How to Swap Runes on Liquidium
Swapping Runes on Liquidium is quick, easy, and straightforward. Liquidium Swaps are powered by SatsTerminal, allowing you to get the best prices from a range of liquidity providers, including Dotswap, Magic Eden, Unisat, OKX (DEX), and OdinSwap.
Follow these simple steps to complete your swap and use your Runes tokens.
Step 1: Launch the Liquidium dApp
Firstly, you need to head over to Liquidium and click the bright orange ‘Launch App’ button on the homepage. This will take you to the Liquidium app, where you can begin the swapping process.

Step 2: Connect Your Wallet
Before you can swap Bitcoin for Runes you will need to connect a Bitcoin wallet that supports Runes.
To do so, you have to connect via the widget that will pop up when you access the Swap via the app navbar. You can choose between Xverse, Leather, OKX, Unisat or Orange.

Step 3: Sign the Connection Request
To verify your wallet address, Liquidium will prompt you in your wallet to sign a connection request.
Check that the correct Bitcoin wallet address appears in the popup. Then, click ‘Sign’ to approve the request. Once signed, your wallet is connected to the app, and you’re all set to start swapping!

Now that your wallet is connected go and click on the ‘Swap’ tab in the top navigation bar. This will open the swap interface, where you can choose the tokens you want to exchange.
Step 4: Select the Swap Option
Here’s where you specify how much bitcoin you want to swap for Runes.

In the BTC Amount field, enter the amount of Bitcoin you want to exchange, and in the ‘You Receive’ section, select Runes as the token to receive.
The system will automatically calculate how many Runes you’ll get based on the current exchange rate and fees.
Just to be safe, double-check the transaction details before moving forward. The most important things to check are:
Make sure you’re happy with the slippage tolerance–it’s set to 2% by default.
Check that you’re comfortable with the transaction fee before proceeding.
That you’re happy with the liquidity route you’ve chosen.

Everything looks good?
Great! Then go ahead and confirm the swap.
Step 5: Wait for Your Runes to Arrive in Your Wallet
Once the transaction is confirmed on the blockchain, the swapped Runes tokens will appear in your wallet.
You can check the transaction status using a Bitcoin block explorer, and if you don’t see your Runes immediately, try refreshing your wallet.
Now that you’ve swapped BTC for Runes, you can hold onto them or use them as collateral to borrow bitcoin on Liquidium.
