What’s Trending in Bitcoin?

President Donald Trump celebrated his inauguration by launching a memecoin

Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th U.S. President on January 20. Bitcoin reacted instantly, skyrocketing to a new all-time high of $109,114.88.

There was no direct crypto shoutout in his inaugural speech, but the signs are there, with entities linked to Trump suggesting he's ready to back the space.

One major signal was the World Liberty Financial scooping up $112.8 million in crypto—grabbing Wrapped Bitcoin, Ethereum, Chainlink, Aave, ENA, and Tron.

But even more so, just before stepping into the Oval Office, Trump dropped a meme token—and it went parabolic from under $10 to a wild $74.59. Thereby hitting a $70 billion market cap within hours.

Shortly after, the first lady followed with the launch of her own meme coin, $MELANIA. Both coins dropped significantly off their highs following the inauguration.

Trump issued an executive order to pardon Silkroad founder Ross Ulbricht

On Trump’s first day in office, Ross Ulbricht walked free after 11 years behind bars.

The full pardon, issued on January 21, freed the Silkroad dark web marketplace creator from a federal prison in Arizona.

His attorney, Brandon Sample, says Ross now has the chance to start fresh and make positive contributions to his country.

Gary Gensler stepped down as SEC Chairman

SEC Chair Gary Gensler resigned from his position as Donald Trump assumed office, leaving room for the appointment of crypto-friendly Paul Atkins.

Atkins, who served at the SEC under George W. Bush, has long pushed for a friendlier approach to crypto.

Recently, as head of the Digital Chamber’s Token Alliance, he has fought against excessive fines on crypto firms and pushed for wider blockchain adoption.
